Demuth Wins To Capture Third AMA Arenacross Series Championship on Night One in Denver

Catanzaro Wins Lites Western Regional Title for GPF Championship Sweep

It was a night of champions inside the Denver Coliseum as night one of the 2010 AMA Arenacross Series finale from Denver crowned a pair of champions in both the AMA Arenacross class and the AMA Arenacross Lites Western Regional Championship.

In the premier class, it was Babbitt’s Monster Energy/TiLUBE Kawasaki’s Josh Demuth, of North Richland Hills, Texas, capturing his sixth win of the season en route to claiming his third AMA Arenacross Series title. A first-time winner stood atop the podium in the Western Regional Championship, but it was GPF/Babbitt’s Kawasaki rookie A.J. Catanzaro, of Middlefield, Conn., who relied on a runner-up effort to secure his first-career championship.

As the gates dropped on the AMA Arenacross class main event, it would be a battle between Babbitt’s teammates and close friends Demuth and Chad Johnson, of Rhinelander, Wis., to determine the outcome of the 2010 title. Coming into the race, Demuth held a 22-point lead over his teammate, putting Johnson in a must-win situation in order to stay alive in the title hunt heading into Saturday night’s final race.

Tuf Honda’s Heath Voss, of Mico, Texas, took advantage of the opportunity to compete on one of the series’ best rides, grabbing the holeshot and the early lead. As the 25-lap main event approached the halfway point, Voss looked to have things in control but tipped over heading into the rhythm section. Demuth was able to take advantage of Voss’ misfortune and led the rest of the way while Triple Effect Kawasaki’s Gray Davenport, of Lehi, Utah, kept him honest with a runner-up effort. Voss recovered to rebound third.

With a healthy 20-point lead over his closest competitor, Catanzaro could take a conservative approach to the 18-lap main event. U Motors Honda’s Tanner Redimann, of Bismarck, N.D., grabbed the holeshot off the gate and went on to dominate the remainder of the race, leading every lap for his first-career arenacross victory. Catanzaro’s runner-up effort was enough to take the Western Regional Championship while Gnarbars/Colorado Powersports Honda’s Kyle Calderini, of Colorado Springs, Colo., finished third in front of his hometown crowd.

The 19th and final race of the 2010 AMA Arenacross Series kicks-off tonight from the Denver Coliseum, beginning at 7 p.m. MT.

Daytona International Speedway To Construct Dirt Track

DAYTONA BEACH , Fla. – Daytona International Speedway, “The World Center of Racing” and home to prestigious events with stock cars, sports cars, motorcycles and karts, will construct a quarter-mile dirt track located outside Turns 1 and 2 in the West Lot, Track President Robin Braig announced.

The project was necessitated by the City of Daytona Beach’s redevelopment plans for Municipal Stadium, which includes replacing the dirt used for the Flat Track racing events with sports turf.

Construction on the quarter-mile dirt track, which will be made up of lime rock, will start in the early fall and be completed in time for next year’s March 3-4 AMA Pro Racing Flat Track motorcycle events, which are a part of 2010 Daytona 200 Week By Honda.

The new dirt track at Daytona International Speedway, which can also be utilized for other events such as the high performance karts from the World Karting Association, will have more than 5,000 temporary seats and lighting will be provided by Musco Lighting.

“Over the years, Municipal Stadium has been a great venue for us and the City of Daytona Beach has been a great partner,” Braig said. “With their redevelopment plans for Municipal Stadium, which included replacing the dirt that we used for the Flat Track with sports turf, this was a logical step.

“We’re excited about the addition of this new venue to our historic racing facility. The new dirt track is going to take the excitement of our popular Flat Track motorcycle races to new levels and give us additional opportunities to host other events during the year.”

“Moving to ‘The World Center of Racing’ for our Grand National Flat Track races during Bike Week is fantastic news,” said Mike Kidd, Director of Flat Track for AMA Pro Racing. “This will allow us to kick off the 2010 short track racing season in grand style.”

Kickflip Indy Dominates Women's Skateboard Vert Final

Los Angeles, Calif. – Just a few short years ago, no one had ever pulled a kickflip indy in a women’s vert competition. Today, three of the eight competitors in the X Games Skateboard Vert Women’s competition added the trick into fluid runs, which resulted in podium spots for each of them.

Last year’s gold medalist, Karen Jonz, skated strong today, stomping not only the kickflip indy, but a solid stalefish and a finger flip indy. In the end, however, the judges awarded gold to last year’s silver medalist, Lynz Adams Hawkins, for her multiple McTwist attempts, and her commitment to setting the bar higher for women’s vert.

Lynz, who has been getting coaching from Tony Hawk for the McTwist, has yet to land the trick in a contest, but so far she is the only female skateboarder attempting to try them.

“I honestly thought I was going to get third,” said Lynz of her win. “30 minutes for a jam session is technically a long time, but the competition went really quick because it was just go go go the whole time. I didn’t even get as many runs as I thought I would.”

Bronze medalist Gaby Ponce, a high school student from New Jersey competing in her second X Games, impressed the crowd with huge airs and a stylish gay twist. “This was the best contest I’ve ever been in,” she said.

“We’re all really pushing each other right now,” added Lynz. “I’m not even going to be able to snowboard this winter, because I’m going to have to skateboard all year round so I can practice and stick even more tricks next year at X Games’ sweet sixteen.

California Native Todd Potter Doubles James Stewart’s Votes While Winning Back-To-Back Moto X Best Whip Gold Medals

The people have spoken - or texted - and they voted Todd Potter winner of Moto X Best Whip at X Games 15.

Potter was able to secure 43 percent of the vote even without extensive warm up this afternoon. Defending his 2008 Best Whip gold medal, the three-time X Games medalist acknowledged that fame can play a role in his success.

“It’s always a fun competition,” said Potter. “But you don’t know if it’s popularity or if it’s truly talent. Either way, it’s fun.”

Runner-up James Stewart was a ball of energy while collecting his 20 percent of the vote, cupping his ear to the crowd to pump his approval rating from the fans. After the contest, he even bowed down to Potter and gave the winner his jersey, the stakes agreed upon during some good natured trash talk before the event.

“He was a good sport,” smiled Potter.

Ricky Carmichael took third place with 17 percent of the vote.

Marisa Dal Santo Reclaims Gold - 2007 and 2008 Gold Medal Winners Dal Santo and Steamer Battle For Queen of Women’s Street Skateboarding Crown

First place in the X Games Skateboarding Street Women’s finals was anybody’s guess today, while skaters Elissa Steamer, Marisa Dal Santo, Lacey Baker and Alexis Sablone traded spots on the leader board after almost every run.

Going into the final round, it looked like Dal Santo, the 2007 gold medalist, might not make the podium. Then she nailed a frontside boardslide down the 12-stair rail to bring her into third place, followed by a frontside lipslide down the rail, to vault her into first.

Last year’s gold medalist, skate legend, and crowd favorite, Elissa Steamer, skated ferociously, but was overpowered by first time X Games competitor Alexis Sablone, who knocked Steamer into third with her equally powerful skateboarding.

Sablone is making a triumphant comeback to the world of skateboarding after disappearing from the scene for a few years to focus on college. She brought the crowd of X Games spectators in the stands and male skateboarding peers lounging on the street course to a roar by landing a kickflip down the 12-stair, followed by a 50-50 down the 12-stair rail.

“I don’t worry about beating Elissa,” said Dal Santo, when asked about how hard it was to defeat the four-time gold medalist who forced Dal Santo to take silver in 2008. “She’s my friend. I like skating with her. We just come out here and do our thing, and today it just worked out for me.”

Jake Brown Conquers Bob Burnquist to Capture First X Games Big Air Gold Medal

After past X Games competitions left Brown just short of victory, Jake Brown finally captured his first gold Skateboard Big Air gold in STAPLES Center at X Games 15.

After five years of competition, Brown barely edged out two-time gold medalist Bob Burnquist. Tied with a 94.00 down the stretch, both riders were unsuccessful in landing their final run, making Brown the champion by virtue of his next highest score (91.33). The gold finally in hand, Brown nonetheless expressed disappointment over failure to complete his ultimate goal: A 900 off the mega ramp.

“I’d like to thank the fans for their support and the energy of the crowd was incredible,” said Brown. “If I had made the 900, I would have been even more psyched.”

Burnquist set a strong tone with opening round score of 91.00 before eventually succumbing to Brown. He was proud of the way he and his fellow riders continually took on the challenge of launching off the 70-foot ramp.

“Everyone stepped up and honored the sport,” said Burnquist.

Rob Lorifice ultimately captured the bronze medal on his final run after struggling throughout most of the competition.

Ricky Carmichael and Ronnie Renner Share Gold Medal in Moto X Step Up at X Games

Fighting their way to a contested tie, Ricky Carmichael and Ronnie Renner each won their second career gold medal in Moto X Step Up at X Games 15.

The last riders standing with a 35-foot bar to clear, the X Games Sports and Competition Director decided that if both missed their allotted pair of attempts, they would each get one final chance in a single elimination. Neither was successful on their final try, but both were satisfied to share the glory.

“I worked my tail off for that thing. I can’t believe that I finally won,” said Renner before expressing gratitude towards the STAPLES Center crowd. “Thanks for keeping me motivated.”

Carmichael was also pleased with his finish. “The stakes were high, you know? Just going back and forth. And, my style has never been pretty. Just get the job done. I’m happy.”

Matt Buyten made the final three before failing to clear 33-feet.

Danny Way Takes Gold in Skateboard Big Air Rail Jam at X Games 15

With Skateboard Big Air Rail Jam making its X Games debut, it’s only fitting that Big Air pioneer Danny Way would usher the event into the history books with a gold medal.

Nursing a pre-existing leg injury that forced him to drop in while riding switch, nearly twenty-three minutes elapsed before Way hit a successful landing for a 92.00 score. Notching his first gold medal since 2006, the skateboard icon reiterated afterward why he was so determined to overcome the pain and compete.

“I have a passion for skateboarding,” said Way. “It’s a fire that’s burning and it doesn’t go out. I love skateboarding and I’ve been doing it my whole life”

Bob Burnquist followed up a Big Air silver medal performance 24 hours earlier with another second place finish (89.00), but like all his fellow riders, spoke mostly afterward about his respect for Way.

“It’s 30 minutes. Danny can hold the pain that long and put something down,” affirmed Burnquist. “This is the first rail jam. He came up with the obstacle. He was gonna skate no matter what.”

Battling back and forth with Adam Taylor for third place, Rob Lorifice’s eventually retained the lead with an 88.33 score. This marked Lorifice’s second bronze medal of X Games 15.

Garrett Reynolds Wins Second BMX Street Gold

For the first two sessions of the three session BMX Freestyle Street competition, it looked like last year’s silver medalist, Van Homan, might unseat X Games BMX Freestyle Street champion Garrett Reynolds. In the end, Reynolds - who dominated nearly every X Games Street competition last year, winning three gold medals and one silver in the four international X Games competitions held in 2008, along with his gold from X Games 14 - proved to be unstoppable.

A flawless manual down the 12-stair handrail earned Homan a perfect score of 50 in an early run, which Reynolds answered in his trademark style, throwing two barspins into his 360 down the stair set, as well as his signature trick: a tucked no-hander to icepick (a grind on the back peg only). The trick tradeoff continued as the two came out of the first session tied for first, and rode out of the second session separated by only one point.

A foot injury sustained during practice on Tuesday slowed Homan down in the third session, which allowed Reynolds to pull himself into a commanding lead while X Games rookie Ty Morrow - who’d been trailing in a close third place position throughout the competition—came from behind to snag the silver.

World’s Best Amateur Vert Skaters Wow Crowd

Ten of the world’s top amateur vert skaters competed for X Games Gold today in an exciting, fast-paced competition full of 540s, flip tricks, and multiple 900 attempts.

Sam Beckett, last year’s silver medal winner in the X Games Skateboard Vert Am competition, tried his best to take the title, but suffered from a heavy slam in the finals, which allowed 14-year-old Sam Bosworth to edge him out for the win.

“This place is insane! I can’t even speak,” exclaimed gold medalist Bosworth, who travelled to the competition from Cornwall, Britain. “Where I come from it rains every day, so getting used to the heat here was really hard. I didn’t think I could win, but I did my best. It feels amazing!”

Pedro Barros, 14, from Brazil skated strong all day, earning himself the bronze.

Second Gold For Adaptive Moto X Rider Chris Ridgway

Chad Ridgway jumped off the line, quickly worked his way into the front spot and didn’t let up once during the five-lap heat in tonight’s Moto X Super X Adaptive competition. Former Winter X Snocross competitor Mike Schultz was hot on his heels the entire race, but couldn’t overtake last year’s gold medal winner.

“I didn’t get a good start,” said Ridgway. “I had to muscle my way up to the front, and then be patient. I didn’t want to hit any big jumps until I saw what Mike was doing.”

Along with back-to-back X Games gold wins, Ridgway has won the Extremity Games the last three years in a row. Before losing his left leg below the knee in 2002 from a crash he suffered in 1995, Ridgway raced professional motocross for ten years.

“I get treated better at this race than anywhere else in the world,” said Ridgway about the X Games. “This race was more exciting than last year because I’ve been training all year long, and really had to fight for it. I felt like this was my race, though. And I’m so honored to win this against Mike. We always compete against each other. He better watch out next year.”

Jason Woods, from Highland, North Carolina came in third.

Cranmer Takes Second X Games Gold

The X Games 15 BMX Freestyle Park Finals came down to a battle for first, between last year’s silver medalist Diogo Canina and four-time BMX park medalist Scotty Cranmer.

Diogo Canina came out of the first round hot, pulling no handed flips and 360 flips in huge, near flawless runs that put him over 10 points ahead on the scoreboard in his heat. Scotty Cranmer and last year’s gold medal winner, Daniel Dhers, spent the second heat essentially tied in the standings, until Cranmer’s final run bumped him up into first position going into the finals.

Cranmer, 2006 gold medalist who earned silver in 2007 and 2005, and Canina spent the finals trading places on the scoreboard. Canina charged the course and looked to be the winner, but Cranmer pulled a double tailwhip backflip up the step up on his final run, with only seconds left in the competition, putting him one point ahead of Canina, into the gold medal position.

“Scotty’s a machine,” said Canina of his competition. “Of course I wanted gold—growing up you always dream of winning it all—but this is still an amazing feeling.”

“We’ve all been riding with each other for a long time,” added Cranmer. “I don’t think we’ve ever been in a final that was that close. It was crazy!”

Gary Young, who qualified first in yesterday’s BMX Freestyle Park Elimination competition tied with Dhers for fifth place in the second heat. With only the top five riders from the first two heats advancing to the final round, the tiebreaking factor came down to which rider had earned the highest overall score in a single run. Young had it, leaving Dhers empty handed while Young advanced to the finals, and then went on to edge out Corey Bohan and Ryan Guettler for the Bronze.

MORGANTOWN, W.V. (July 14, 2009) - Through the first six rounds of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship season, there have been a total of eight different riders atop the podium across the 450 and 250 classes, including seven first-time winners. This Saturday, the Spring Creek Motocross facility in Millville, Minn., presents yet another opportunity for a new face to make his way into the winners circle and add to what had already been one of the most memorable an unpredictable seasons ever.

From farmland to ferocious motocross track, Spring Creek Motocross hosted its first Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross National in 1983. Known for its rich soil, which was used during the days when the track served solely as a farm, Spring Creek is located just a short drive from nearby Rochester, Minn. In 1987 John and Greta Martin assumed ownership of the venue and ever since have taken the facility to the next level. Some of those improvements include a three-story starting tower with a viewing platform, a three-story building equipped with concessions, a commons area, two levels of VIP suites, and a four story announcing tower with spectator deck. These first class amenities help make Spring Creek one of the leading tracks on the tour.

Television coverage of the 450 Class will air on SPEED July 18 at 11:30 p.m. EST while the 250 Class will also air on SPEED on July 21. Check your local listings for exact times.

In the highly competitive 450 Class, all five winners this season have broke through for their first career victory with Josh Grant becoming the most recent at RedBud on the 4th of July. Grant, who also won his first AMA Supercross main event this season, used 2-1 finishes to earn the overall aboard his JGRMX/Toyota/Yamaha. Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki''s Chad Reed, of Tampa, Fla., controls the points lead 240-219 over Honda Red Bull Racing''s Andrew Short, of Smithville, Texas. Short''s teammate Ivan Tedesco, of Tallahassee, Fla., is third overall and has a win of his own this season. Of the class'' top riders, Short will lead the way this weekend thanks to a strong runner-up effort at Millville last season. The smiley-faced assassin is still in search of his first career victory, but with the amount of parity thus far in 2009, his odds are strong.

In the 250 Class, a wild pair of motos at RedBud concluded with Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki''s Jake Weimer winning his second straight overall of the season. Weimer''s teammate Christophe Pourcel controls the points lead but the wave of momentum Weimer is carrying into Saturday plays into his favor. Additionally, the state of Minnesota will welcome home a trio of riders, led by Belle Plaine''s own Ryan Dungey. A two-time winner this season and currently second in the standings, the Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki will be a major threat for the win after capturing the overall at his home track last season. Spring Creek owners the Martin family will have extra reason to cheer this weekend as son Alex, who made his pro debut at Millville in 2008, will return home with a factory ride. With the absence of Trey Canard, GEICO Powersports Honda has enlisted the talent of Martin for Saturday''s race, giving the young rider his first big break as a pro. Last but not least, Goodrich''s Tucker Hibbert looks to take advantage o
f familiarity and achieve his best result of 2009. One of the world''s best snowmobile racers, Hibbert is arguably the most unique dual sport athlete on the planet, competing in two distinctly different disciplines during two polar opposite seasons.

2008 at Spring Creek marked a weekend of champions as both the 450 and 250 class titles were decided in Minnesota. Like he had done so in every race last year, James Stewart swept both 450 Class motos, marking his 10th win of the season and his 20th consecutive moto win. The win clinched his first-ever premier class AMA Pro Motocross championship. While Dungey claimed victory after going 2-1 in last year''s 250 Class showdown on the track he grew up racing on as an amateur, it was the hard-charging Ryan Villopoto, whose 1-2 result scored him his third consecutive 250 Class championship.

The increasingly popular Monster Energy Fan Fest will take place at the track on Friday afternoon, beginning at 4 p.m. CT. Ashley Fiolek Attends IWMC Opening Ceremony

The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is pleased to announce that motocross racing phenom Ashley Fiolek will speak at the Aug. 19 Opening Ceremony of the fifth AMA International Women & Motorcycling Conference, presented by Harley Davidson and Buell, in Keystone, Colo.

The fact that Fiolek is deaf has never hampered her performance on the motocross track. She quickly demonstrated that she is a serious competitor in the professional ranks when she rode her way to the title in the 2008 AMA/WMA Women's Professional Motocross Championship. This year has proved to be no different. After the first four races of the 2009 series, Fiolek -- competing as the first-ever woman member of the Honda Red Bull factory racing team -- currently holds first place in the point standings. But she is not content to stop there. Fiolek intends to compete on the men's motocross circuit in the not-too-distant future.

What makes the 18-year-old even more likable is her genuine passion for sharing her enthusiasm about women in the motorcycling.

"I am really looking forward to attending this year's AMA International Women & Motorcycling Conference in Colorado," she said. "I have been riding and racing since I was 7, and I think the advances in motorcycling sports that women have made are fantastic. I can't wait to meet other enthusiasts who share my love for being outdoors and riding."

Robbie Maddison jumps Tower Bridge in London

LONDON (GBR).— Sunday night saw Maddison become the first rider in history to take on Tower Bridge on an FMX bike. The Australian used the famous London landmark as a take-off and landing ramp as he cleared the gap above the Thames after the bridge had been opened to let ships through. With an approach speed of approximately 75km/h, Maddison took off from the north side of the bridge, performing a Backflip 22 metres above the Thames, before completing a hard but safe landing in front of the south tower of one of the world's most famous sights.

Maddison: "I have been thinking about this jump for years. Over the last few months we've taken a really close look at each area of Tower Bridge. This time we were only on it for a few minutes, so everything had to be exactly right first time — we only had one chance to do it. It was an incredible feeling to fly between the two towers and over the Thames."

The spectacular stunt in the British capital is the latest on the Australian's incredible CV that includes jumping the equivalent of an American football pitch (106.9 metres) in 2008, or ringing in the New Year in 2009 with a huge 25.5-metre step-up jump onto the roof of the Arc de Triomphe Hotel in Las Vegas.

Maddison will return to London on 22 August to take part in the final stop of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour 2009 in Battersea Power Station.

Former Two-Time US Open Supercross Champion to Chase After Third Title!

Feld Motor Sports announced today former two-time champion Chad Reed, of Tampa, Fla., will race at this year's Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open Supercross inside Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena October 9-11.

On the opening night of last year's race, Reed was forced to withdraw from the competition due to a mechanical problem suffered in a crash on lap one. The second night of racing offered fans one of the greatest races in Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open history between Reed and James Stewart. After leading the first 16 laps of last year's Saturday main event, Reed suffered a huge crash that ended his chances at winning the race.

Reed came to the U.S. from Australia in 2002 and has quickly become one of the world's top supercross racers. In his AMA rookie year, he won the 125cc Eastern Regional AMA Supercross Series. The following season he moved to the premier AMA Supercross class, winning eight races and scoring an additional six podium finishes en route to second place in points standings. In 2004, Reed had his best season ever, earning 10 wins and the first championship of his career. Since moving into the premier class, he has yet to finish worse than third place in AMA Supercross.

Eight of the top performers from the X Games and Winter X Games are nominated for the17th annual ESPYs, which will be televised on ESPN Sunday, July 19, at 9 p.m. ET. The 2009 ESPYs co-presented by Under Armour and Land Rover and hosted by Samuel L. Jackson release the nominees for Best Male Action Sport Athlete and Best Female Action Sport Athlete categories.

The 2009 Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open Supercross will feature two distinctly different track designs for this year's race inside Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena, featuring the largest finish line jump in the event's history.

The six technical lanes will challenge riders and entertain fans inside the intimate MGM Grand Garden Arena. This year's track will be a combination of the-best-of-the-best obstacles taken from the last nine years of the Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open, including the mammoth finish line jump that will span nearly 75 ft.

"This year's U.S. Open tracks should be two of the best yet" said Dave Prater, Director of Supercross, Feld Motor Sports. "They're more technical and tighter than the previous year's, which will make it challenging and create great parity. There are still some straight-away's and a flat sweeping turn to allow for speed as well. Both tracks should please the fans and the riders."

Two-Time Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open Champion Stewart Announces Bid to Defend Title

AURORA, Ill. (July 6, 2009) - Defending Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open champion and recently crowned AMA Supercross class champion James Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., announced today that he will defend his title at this year's race inside Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena October 9-11.

At last year's Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open, Stewart capped of a stellar 1-1 weekend en route to winning his second championship at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. It was a special win for Stewart, who was competing aboard a new bike and new team for the first-time in his professional career.

"The U.S. Open is a part of preparation for myself and the San Manuel Yamaha Race Team leading into the 2010 season," said Stewart. "Last year, the U.S. Open was my first race with my new team and it turned out to be a great weekend. I had only ridden a Yamaha about four times before heading to Las Vegas to race in the U.S. Open and this year will be similar to last year because we have a completely new motorcycle that I will be racing. The U.S. Open is one of our steps for preparing for the 2010."

Weimer Nabs Back-to-Back Victories in 250 Class

BUCHANAN, Mich. (July 4, 2009) - The 2009 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship continued to provide some of the most unpredictable action in the history of the sport as JGRMX/Toyota/Yamaha rookie Josh Grant, of Riverside, Calif., became the series' seventh first-time winner of the season at the Monster Energy Motocross National from RedBud. Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Jake Weimer made it two in a row in the 250 Class.

Grant paced the morning practice sessions on Saturday and showcased his stellar speed in each of the day's motos. After a bad start in moto one, Grant stormed through the field to a runner-up finish, nearly stealing the win from Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki's Chad Reed, of Australia. In the final moto, Grant came out of the gates in the top five and quickly moved into second where he stalked Honda Red Bull Racing's Ivan Tedesco, of Tallahassee, Fla., before making the move for the win.

"I really needed this win," explained Grant. "I finally got a decent start and just made all the passes I needed to get to the front. I'm pumped for the Joe Gibbs Racing team because its our first outdoor win. I knew we had the speed. I just needed to get a start and today everything worked out."

Reed solidified second overall (1-3) and his spot atop the season standings while Tedesco wrapped up the third position (4-2). Halfway through the season, Reed holds a 21-point lead over Andrew Short.

Weimer raced to his second straight victory after claiming his inaugural win one week ago. Consistency proved to be the key on Saturday as Weimer's competitor's battled misfortune in the motos, becoming an unlikely winner with moto results of second and fourth.

"I was pretty sure I had the overall by the halfway point. I knew the guys ahead of me were behind me in the first moto. I saw Dungey go down so he was behind me and he was the only one that beat me (in moto one). I feel like I rode well and I'm just happy to be up here."

The overall podium duplicated that of last week's as Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Christophe Pourcel, of France, took second overall (8-1) and Muscle Milk/MDK/KTM's Tommy Searle, of Great Britain, rounded out the podium (5-2) for the third week in a row.

Pourcel holds a nine point lead over Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki's Ryan Dungey heading into the final six races.

The Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship takes a week off, but returns to action on Saturday, July 18 from Millville, Minn. for the Honda Spring Creek Pro National from Spring Creek Motocross Park. Same day coverage can be seen on SPEED at 11:30 p.m. ET.

MORGANTOWN, W.V. (June 30, 2009) - After a pair of first-time winners stood atop the podium last weekend in Colorado, it is anyone's guess as to who will take the checkered flag in the 450 and 250 classes at Saturday's Monster Energy Motocross National from RedBud in Buchanan, Mich. The race marks the halfway point of the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship season with round six of 12.

One of the most popular stops on the circuit, RedBud has been dubbed "America's Track" and has served as the centerpiece of the series since its inception in 1974. In 1978, RedBud hosted its first national over the 4th of July weekend and has been American Motocross' Independence Day tradition since its inception. The southwestern Michigan track is notorious for its massive tabletops and the infamous LaRocco's Leap, the largest jump in the series at 120 feet, named after Indiana-born legend Mike LaRocco who became the first rider to ever complete the uphill triple.

For 2009, RedBud will continue its role as the centerpiece of the three-race Monster Energy Triple Crown of Motocross. Current class points leaders Chad Reed and Christophe Pourcel took victories at the opening round of the Triple Crown two races ago at High Point. They both return looking to stay in the hunt for the $25,000 bonus that comes with sweeping all three events and will lead 78 of their rivals out of the gates. Competition from the 450 class will be shown live on NBC beginning at 4:30 ET.

Last weekend, the series completed its only round under the lights at Thunder Valley MX. Honda Red Bull Racing's Ivan Tedesco captured his first-career overall victory in the 450 Class after a dominating 1-1 performance. The 2005 Lites (now 250) Class champion was at the top of his game all evening and moved into third in the standings thanks to his performance.

"This is actually my first win outdoors since 2005," said Tedesco. "I won (in Colorado) in the (250 Class) and that lead to a championship in that class. It's been a long time coming and I've had to battle through some injuries over the years, but I feel like I'm in top form and it feels great. This year didn't start out great at the first race, but I've had podiums and great runs since then."

Tedesco's Honda Red Bull Racing teammate Andrew Short finished second in front of his hometown fans while Canidae/Motosport.com/Kawasaki's Tommy Hahn captured his first career podium. All three riders enter this weekend with considerable momentum with each of the red riders closing in on Reed and his Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki team atop the standings. Also stepping into the mix on Saturday will be Dewitt, Mich. native Nick Wey. The series' top privateer always performs well at his home track and will be eager to build upon his fourth place finish one year ago and reach the podium.

After leaving round four without scoring a single point, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Jake Weimer rebounded impressively with moto finishes of second and first to capture the first motocross victory of his career in the 250 Class. Teammate Pourcel and Muscle Milk/MDK/KTM's Tommy Searle completed the podium.
"This was something huge for me," boasted Weimer. "I didn't know if I was going to ever get an outdoor win. I got two good starts on my Kawasaki and I only made one small mistake in the second moto. I'm really excited because this is my first moto and overall wins."

With a huge wave of momentum behind him and the confidence to win, Weimer's desire to overcome last season's 13th place result at RedBud will be considerable. Pourcel has been strong all season, despite never having been to any of the tracks on the schedule. He built upon his advantage over Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki's Ryan Dungey, who suffered from misfortune in Michigan one year ago with a 14th place result.
The Independence Day celebration at RedBud was led by green machines in 2008 as eventual series champions and Kawasaki riders James Stewart and Ryan Villopoto stood atop the podium. For Stewart, it was his sixth overall victory and 12th moto win en route to a perfect season while Villopoto continued an impressive streak of his own, winning his 11th moto in a row out of 12. Additionally, each rider claimed their second Triple Crown victory, setting the stage for a $25,000 run for the money at the series finale. With each rider absent from the 2009 season, the 450 Class will see just its third different winner in the last eight years at RedBud while the 250 Class will be won by someone other than Ryan Villopoto for the first time since his move into the professional ranks.

On Friday, July 3, the Monster Energy Fan Fest will give the faithful RedBud fans a chance to check out the national track before the world's best riders blast out of the gates. The Monster Energy Kawasaki team and its riders Timmy Ferry and Ricky Dietrich will be on hand to sign autographs as will the Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki squad of Chad Reed, Michael Byrne, and Ryan Dungey. Gates open for Fan Fest at 4 p.m.
Additionally, the first of four rounds of the FMF 2-Stroke Invitational Series will commence during intermission on Saturday between the pro motos. The familiar and well-loved sound of two-stroke engines will resonate through the facility as motocross legends Ricky Carmichael, Jeff Stanton, and Jeff Emig lead a loaded field from the Michigan Mafia out of the gates in this special event.

LAKEWOOD, Colo.(AP)—Ivan Tedesco dominated the 450 Class and Jake Weimer captured the 250 Class, giving AMA Pro Motocross two first-time winners Saturday night.

Tedesco was the first rider out of the gates in each moto and led every lap in his first wins, moto and overall, since moving into the premier 450 Class in 2006.

Andrew Short made it a 1-2 sweep for Red Bull Honda with second overall. Kawasaki’s Tommy Hahn rounded out the podium with a career-best third place.

After failing to score a single point at the previous round, Weimer bounced back in convincing fashion. Teammate Christophe Pourcel of France grabbed the runner-up spot while Britain’s Tommy Searle finished third for the second race in a row.

Women's Motocross Gets TV Deal

MORGANTOWN, W.V. (June 3, 2009) - MX Sports Pro Racing and Lucas Oil have announced that the Women's Motocross (WMX) Class will receive a premier television package for the 2009 season. All eight rounds of the series will be featured on the Versus Network with in-depth one hour broadcasts. In addition, four rounds will also air with half hour broadcasts on the Outdoor Channel. All of these programs will be produced by new series sponsor Lucas Oil, and the Lucas Oil Television studios.

Reigning champion Ashley Fiolek has kicked off the 2009 season with impressive victories at Glen Helen Raceway and the Hangtown Motocross Classic, making her two for two in her first season with the factory Honda Red Bull Racing team. (Fiolek is now 3 for 3 with her win at Freestone. See the Freestone results) Coverage will commence on Versus beginning June 5. All of the events are scheduled to air on select Wednesday evenings from June through September at 6 p.m. local time. Air dates can be found below along with the season schedule.

In all, the WMX shows will reach a combined 105 million households across the country. Each Versus broadcasts will transmit into 74 million homes while the Outdoor Channel telecasts will span 31 million homes, generating more exposure for women's motocross than ever before.

Hangtown Motocross Classic

The 2009 Lucas Oil AMA National Motocross Championship has begun and this weekend the series rolls into Sacramento for the Hangtown Motocross Classic.

Hangtown predates the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship but a national series was the dream of the founders more than 40 years ago. Now, the Dirt Diggers North Motorcycle Club (DDNMC) is proud to own and produce the longest-running motocross national of all and the only event on the schedule still run by a motorcycle club, the Hangtown Motocross Classic.

The first DDNMC race was held in 1968 and in 1979 the Club and the Sacramento County Department of Parks and Recreation put together a permanent facility at the Prairie City OHV Park in Rancho Cordova, near Sacramento. Eventually, the State OHV Department took control of the park and, in conjunction with DDNMC, has provided permanent sprinklers, fencing, restrooms, running water, gazebos, a state-of-the-art announcing tower, and other facilities.

Just a few days remain until the season-opening race of the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championships. Round one, the 14th Annual South Point Hotel & Casino Motocross National, will take place on Saturday, May 23 in San Bernardino, Calif., at famous Glen Helen Raceway.

Gates for the South Point Hotel & Casino Motocross National open to the public at 8 a.m. on May 23, followed by on-track festivities at 8:30 a.m. with practice and qualifying for the 450 Class, 250 Class, and the brand new WMA Class. Opening ceremonies celebrate the official start of the 2009 season at 12:30 p.m. with final motos for all three classes beginning at 12:50 p.m.

Prior to the excitement of race day on Saturday, Glen Helen will host the inaugural Monster Energy® Fan Fest on Friday, May 22. Fan Fest allows motocross fans the chance to get up close and personal with some of the sport's top riders as well the chance to meet the Legends and Hero's of the past, including Gary Jones, Doug Dubach, Chuck Sun, David Bailey, and Broc Glover.

Monster Energy® Fan Fest officially kicks off at 4 p.m. and concludes at 6 p.m., but early attendees can catch a glimpse of the world's best riders on-track during an exclusive one hour riding session from 3-4 p.m. The stars of the 450, 250, and WMA classes will all be logging laps in preparation for Saturday's big event. Autograph signings and live interviews will follow throughout the pit area from 4-5 p.m.

In addition, fans can witness hill climbing legends Robbie and Brett Peterson, who will provide a nitro-fueled hill climb demonstration up Mount St. Helen. There will also be a large display of vintage motocross bikes as well as a number of other attractions and vendors.

The amateur events will be held in conjunction with the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship. These events, which are a long-standing tradition of the series, are organized to allow local motocross racers the opportunity to ride a world class facility.

For the first time in over ten years, all 12 rounds of the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship will feature amateur events. With a variety of classes available to cover men and women of all ages and skill levels, the 2009 nationals' amateur days offer something for every rider.

AMA Supercross Star James Stewart will be profiled on ESPN's award-winning primetime newsmagazine, E:60. The show will air Tuesday, April 28, at 7 p.m. ET.

Stewart is often called the "Tiger Woods" of his sport and is arguably the most dominant athlete in competition today. The first African-American in history to win a major motorsports title, Stewart has not only broken numerous records, he has broken racial barriers as well. He now earns more than $10 million annually and is on the verge of winning his second AMA Supercross championship.

But Stewart's rise to the top was not easy. His father collected cans to help pay for his son's racing. And James had to come to terms with being different, both in the all-black neighborhood where he grew up and on the all-white racetracks where he competed. Now one of the most popular riders in Supercross, Stewart for the first time talks openly with E:60's Michael Smith about the racism he has endured at the racetrack. On the track, he wins with a style all his own, and off the track, he hasn't forgotten where he came from.

Lucas Oil was announced as the new title sponsor for the AMA National Motocross Championship Series at the Indy Supercross. The Lucas Oil AMA National Motocross Championship Series for 2009 begins in May over Memorial Day weekend.

After introducing the format this past summer at the Thunder Valley and Steel City events and receiving an overwhelmingly positive response, the 2009 schedule makes the move to Saturday afternoon races.

Other changes include single-day competitions, four weekends of rest built into the schedule and, in order to help offset travel expenses, MX Sports has rearranged the events for a more cohesive and efficient travel schedule.
